Will Young handcuffs himself to Cambridgeshire dog-breeding centre - BBC News

Camp Beagle Singer Will Young handcuffed himself to the front gates of a facility that breeds dogs for laboratory research. He joined animal rights protesters from "Camp Beagle" campaigning for the closure of MBR Acres in Wyton, near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire. The 42-year-old said: "People are unaware there is still animal testing in this country and it is not needed." The company, Marshall Bioresources, said the facility helped "save millions of human and animal lives". Campaigners have demanded the release of the dogs and an end to the use of beagles in laboratory testing. Nadia Gyane/BBC Young said he travelled to the demonstration "because I am a dog-lover, an animal-lover and a human-lover; I come with no hate and aggression". He said: "I couldn't sit at home and not do nothing [to] bring attention to the plight of these animals." The former Pop Idol winner said he would be "doing it anyway", regardless of his profil

ALL ABOUT DOGS: What is a 'clicker' and how can it help with obedience training? - Sarasota Herald-Tribune

Image
By Gregg Flowers  |  Sarasota Herald-Tribune Question: We just got a puppy and I have a friend who swears by something called "clicker training." What is clicker training and is it worth pursuing with my dog? Answer: The "clicker" used in clicker training is a little strip of metal inside a handheld plastic box that clicks when you press it with your thumb. When I was a kid, a toy like this usually showed up around Halloween as a noisemaker. The way the training works is, when your dog complies with a command, you click and give a treat. Your dog starts to associate the click as something positive. Do I think it could be an effective way to train your dog? Perhaps, sure. And I know others who swear by it as well, but clicker training has always struck me as a superfluous albeit ingenious method of dog training. Whoever came up with the idea of clicker training was creative, I'll give them that.

Man's best friend, dogs are a cherished part of many families. When your furry friend is also family, it goes without saying that they deserve the best. It's why you care about giving them a balanced diet and exercise. Their health is just as much a priority as any other family member. When it comes to proper canine wellness, though, your dog could be missing something important. That crucial, missing element is bacteria — well, good bacteria. A healthy gut in all creatures contains good bacteria that can help with digestion and breaks down food particles. If your pup's gut health isn't balanced, bad bacteria can take over. This leads to problems for your dog's stomach and intestines. The easy solution is to start utilizing probiotics for dogs. A good probiotic can restore and maintain the balance of good and bad bacteria. Likewise, it can improve skin, increase energy, and much more. Your pooch's health could improve drastically with the

It's not uncommon to get an occasional scratch when you play with your cat. However, it's important to take care of your wound and monitor it carefully for complications. Not all cat scratches are dangerous, but certain circumstances may increase your risk of developing certain diseases and other health risks. Read on to learn more about some of the possible dangers associated with cat scratches, and whether you need to seek medical attention. Regardless of age, cat scratches can mean more than just pain and temporary red or discolored marks. These wounds can sometimes sting, bleed, and even become infected. Both feral and domesticated cats may also transmit certain

People who own so-called "bully breed" dogs and who are responsible pet owners are getting some protections from higher insurance fees. Scott Horton/ WNBF News New York Governor Kathy Hochul has signed legislation prohibiting insurers from refusing policies or increasing premiums based solely on an owner's dog's breed. Some owners of dogs like Pit Bulls, Rottweilers and Doberman Pincers have been denied homeowner insurance, refused renewal, had policies canceled or are told they have to take out huge liability policies of a million dollars only because they own a breed of dog some people deem dangerous. A majority of incidents can be traced back to irresponsible owners and even owners who train their dogs to be aggressive. In signing the bill, Governor Hochul said pet owners should not fear losing their insurance coverage based on the dog they own and dogs of all breeds deserve loving homes. Another bill mandates that veterinarians report suspected animal cruelty to
