Video of Man's Gigantic Dog Terrifies Internet: 'Sorry But You Are His Pet'

A video showing a giant dog towering over their human owner has been met with a mixture of astonishment and apprehension online.

The ownership of large dogs remains a divisive topic among pet lovers, with some firmly in favor and others apprehensive, to say the least, given the number of biting incidents involving canines of this kind.

So it was hardly a surprise when a video showing a giant alabai, or Central Asian shepherd dog, standing up on their owner drew such a wide range of responses online. It can be viewed here.

The video, posted to TikTok by an account called AppaTheAlabai, has already been watched a total of 5.3 million times already. In the clip the dog, the titular Appa, can be seen reaching up to take a treat from their owner's hand.

In doing so, viewers get a glimpse of the sheer size of the pooch, who stands tall above their owner and even the frame of the door.

The dog's potentially intimidating stature is evidently not lost on their owner either, who shared the clip to TikTok alongside John Williams' iconic score from the hit shark movie Jaws.

"Is the front door a good comparison?" an onscreen caption asks. The answer is undoubtedly yes. On top of all that, it would appear that this dog still has a bit more growing to do with an accompanying subtitle noting that Appa is only "13 months" old.

The footage left viewers on social media understandably stunned. "Is this real?" DEO4L asked. "Gotta be 7 foot," YBK Dev wrote. Another user, writing as mrsamore_colpo, offered up an amusing dose of reality to the dog owner, commenting: "Sorry but YOU are his pet."

Elsewhere Appa drew comparisons with a variety of similarly large animals. "Stay calm there is a saber tooth in your house," thefirstfoundbarb wrote while Dyaynetaylorteague asked: "What kind of horse is this ?" Btgwawa, meanwhile, declared: "I want one I'm gonna name him Clifford and dye him red" in reference to the cartoon character of the same name.

Others, however, expressed concern. Killumunaughty said: "I'm actually terrified" while Chiken wrote: "I bet you won't mess with him." Quirklessvillain added: "I don't want nobody to tell me he doesn't bite."

Newsweek has contacted AppaTheAlabai for comment.

Though alabais are not known as an especially vicious breed, all dog owners need to be wary of the potential threat their pet could pose to strangers—and sometimes even family.

In 2020, data collected by DogBite.org found pit bulls to be the breed most commonly involved in dog bite fatalities in the U.S., accounting for 72 percent of deaths over that period.

A boy in Texas was almost mauled to death by his neighbor's dog who reportedly shook the child "like a chew toy" during the attack.

A man in Virginia, meanwhile, was charged after a 7-year-old girl was killed in a dog attack involving a Rottweiler.
