Dad’s heartbreaking message to baby girl mauled to death by pet dog bought a week ago - Daily Star

A dad's heartbreaking last public message to his young daughter has been revealed after she was killed by the family's pet dog.

One-year-old Bella-Rae Birch was mauled by the dog in St Helens, Merseyside, on Monday (March 21), before succumbing to her injuries in hospital later that day.

The toddler was attacked by the family pooch, which had only been bought a week ago and has since been humanely destroyed by the police.

A neighbour who heard the tragic tot's screams told how she desperately tried to save Bella's life.

The animal will be subject to further forensic examinations to determine the breed of dog and whether it is or isn't a legal breed under the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act.

And in a heartbreaking message, dad Ryan wished the toddler a happy first birthday – unknowing that it would tragically be her last.

He wrote: "Happy birthday to my little princess, big one today. First ever birthday!! My Bella boo. Have the best day gorgeous we love you too much."

Bella-Rae's devastated family have paid tribute to the "much-loved" little girl, saying: "As a family, we would like to thank the community for their support.
