Kristin Smart Trial: Cadaver Dog Shows ‘Change of Behavior’ Underneath Defendant’s Deck - Noozhawk

Image
A dog trained to detect human remains zeroed in on a section underneath defendant Ruben Flores's deck during a search of his property, an expert testified Tuesday during the Kristin Smart murder trial. During the March 2021 search, the dog showed all the "alerting" behaviors that are exhibited only when smelling human remains but did not alert, human remains detection expert Kristin Black said on the stand in Monterey County Superior Court. Paul Flores is accused of killing Smart and his father, Ruben Flores, is accused of helping his son hide Smart's body under his deck after her alleged murder and moving it to a different location.  Also in court on Tuesday, investigators with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office discussed their strategies for delving into Smart...

NICE recommends transplant with good bacteria taken from poo to resolve recurrent Clostridium difficile infections - NICE

Image
Hundreds of people with recurrent bacterial infections could be treated with gut bacteria taken from a healthy donor's poo. NICE has recommended a faecal microbiota transplant (FMT) is offered to people who have been treated for two or more Clostridium difficile (C. diff) infections without success. FMT treatment aims to restore a healthy population of gut bacteria and involves transferring gut bacteria and other microorganisms from healthy donor poo into the gut of the recipient. Clinical trial evidence showed that FMT treatment is significantly better than antibiotics alone at resolving a C. diff infection in people who have had two or more previous infections. C.diff is a bacterium that causes an infection if the balance of bacteria in the bowel changes, which leads to diarrhoea. Certain groups, such as older people, are at higher risk of C. diff infection. The infection most commonly affects people who are taking, or have recently taken, antibiotics, and can be transm...

Every Day is Dog Day at Our House But Today is the National One - q1065.fm

Apparently, today is National Dog Day, but at our house, that's every day of the week. My husband, Jim, and I have had several dogs over the years and each one has been special. But, for me, there's something extra-special about our Pitbull/Labrador mix named Toby. He's 2 years old and is everyone's best friend. Toby has never met a human, or a dog, that he doesn't love. Okay, that's not true. There's one guy that stands at an intersection with a sign that he growls at (we don't know why) but, other than that, he's a lover, not a fighter. Cindy Campbell, Townsquare Bangor Cindy Campbell, Townsquare Bangor loading... Life is never dull around Toby because he's always up to something. Like the day I brought home a new storage ottoman for the house. We took the cover off it and Toby decided to try it out as a clubhouse. Unfortunately, he's grown way too big for such a small space. Food Aggression: Pet Parenting Tips To Curb Your Dog’s Food Guarding Behavior - DogTime

Image
Food aggression is dangerous for both dogs and their humans. (Picture Credit: Tatyana/Getty Images) Who owns the dog food in your house once it hits the bowl? Does Rover run you out of the kitchen when he is eating dinner? What happens if you need to take away a tasty bone or chew? If food, bones, or chews turn your sweetie into a growling, snarling monster, then your dog has an issue with resource guarding, or CPA — canine possession aggression. Food aggression is the most common form of CPA. Advertisement Here's what you should know about food aggression and guarding in dogs and what you can do about it. Does Your Dog Eat Alone Or In Good Company? We tend to teach our children to "leave the dog alone while they eat." This is for good reason, as most dogs view small children no differently than they view other dogs. However, if the adults in the family must also tip-toe around the dog when they're eating, the dog may perceive themselves as the true "o...

Tick-borne diseases in your dog | Casey’s Corner - Chico Enterprise-Record

Image
Most people have the same something-crawling-on-the-back-of-your-neck reaction to the thought of ticks. A blood-sucking creature is bad enough — but one that can also transmit potentially deadly diseases puts ticks in a whole new category. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, of all diseases transmitted to humans by insects and related arthropods, those spread by ticks account for more than 75% of infections reported annually. But it's not just humans: our four-legged companions are equally at risk. Each year, thousands of dogs become infected with and fall seriously ill from tick-borne diseases. Here in California, the Western black-legged tick — also known as the deer tick — and the brown dog tick are responsible for the most serious of these diseases, including Lyme disease, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis and babesiosis. Lyme Disease From its genesis in Lyme, Connecticut, Lyme disease and the black-legged tick which transmits it, is now found in every s...
