This Is How Much People In New Jersey Spoil Their Dogs

These days, there's a survey for everything; the latest one I've come across ranks the 50 states on how much they pamper their dogs. We know that dog owners treat their pets like children, so some of their findings won't be surprising.

The study was done by Forbes Advisor and it looked at ten different metrics about how people treat their dogs in order to arrive at their rankings.

New Jersey dogs are pretty spoiled; we came in sixth nationally for spoiling our dogs. Here are some New Jersey stats:

🐶 Nearly one in four New Jersey dog owners (23.5%) said they've put perfume or cologne on their dog, the eighth highest amount nationwide.🐶 Garden State dog owners tied with dog owners in Pennsylvania and Virginia for being ninth most likely to throw birthday parties or other celebrations for their dog (38%).🐶 New Jersey tied with Maryland for having the 10th highest percentage of dog owners who have pushed their dog in a stroller (24.5%).🐶 New Jersey is also home to the 11th highest percentage of dog owners who have brought their dog on vacation (45.5%, tied with New Hampshire).

There are some interesting holiday numbers on the national level:

🐶 The top ways to spoil dogs during the Christmas season include buying a holiday gift for the dog (67.2%), buying a holiday outfit for the dog (40.6%) and preparing a special holiday meal for the dog (39.8%).🐶 More than one in five dog owners (22.2%) have spent more money on Christmas gifts for their dog than on gifts for their friends and family.

I know our dog would be included in several of those categories, especially in the buying gifts category, courtesy of my daughter; she's also a big fan of the holiday sweaters for our pooch.

Dog Bites Boy At Gardens By The Bay, Owner Claims She's Not Liable For Injury

One woman's family outing at Christmas Wonderland in Gardens by the Bay ended prematurely after a dog attacked her son.

In a Facebook post, Cynthia Tan said that the incident happened near the Supertree Grove on Tuesday (Dec 12) at about 9.45pm.

According to Tan, her four-year-old son had been walking towards the 'snow' during the Blizzard Time show when he "suddenly knelt on the floor crying hysterically".

"After he calmed down, he told me a dog had bitten him," the 41-year-old wrote.

"There was no provocation, and he was innocently walking past."

Tan said her husband confronted the dog owner who admitted the attack, but the latter claimed that she was not liable for the injury since "it happened in a public place".

The dog owner fled the scene before police arrived.

In her Facebook post, Tan also asked the public for help in identifying the woman in the photo she shared.

Speaking to AsiaOne on Wednesday, Tan said that her son is recovering well after he was admitted to KK Women's and Children's Hospital on Tuesday night.

As her son has autism, she is finding it hard to calm him down.

"He now insists on being carried and is afraid that if he gets down to walk, a dog will come out of nowhere to attack him again," she shared.

"Before my son was attacked, we saw the dog provoking a golden retriever. Something needs to be done about its aggression."

Adding that her son's medical treatment cost around $140, Tan said that she intends to seek compensation from the dog's owner.

In the comments section, several netizens criticised the dog's owner for her irresponsible behaviour.

"They are giving a bad name to dog owners," one of them wrote, while another said that he would not be surprised if Gardens by the Bay bans visitors from bringing their pets.

Christmas Wonderland's organiser Blue Sky Events told AsiaOne on Thursday that the incident was not brought to their attention on Dec 12.

"We were sorry to learn about it from social media," they said.

The organiser urged pet owners to exercise responsible pet ownership by keeping dogs on a leash in public areas, and to muzzle certain breeds.

According to Gardens by the Bay's visiting guidelines, dogs are permitted at the outdoor gardens but not at the conservatories, OCBC Skyway and the children's garden.

Visitors are also required to keep dogs on a leash and muzzle breeds specified under the Animals & Birds rules, which include Bull Terriers, Rottweilers and German Shepherds.

Dog owners are liable to a fine up to $5,000 if their pet bites another person under the Miscellaneous Offences (Public Order and Nuisance) Act.

If the person suffers an injury, dog owners will also have to pay compensation of up to $2,000.

Dog owners may also be liable for negligence and have to pay compensation if their actions or omissions resulted in their pet becoming unleashed and causing injury to another person.

Desperate Help Needed For Dog Left Tied To A Pole Covered In Wounds And His Own Urine

In Baltimore City, Maryland, a skeletal dog is in need of immediate help after he was found tied to a pole covered in wounds and his own urine. Now dubbed Jolly, he was brought to BARCS.Org in Baltimore.

The two-year-old unaltered male only weighs 28 pounds and is severely underweight. It could only have been a heartless person who abandoned him in the cold and left him shivering; the lack of body fat and his sparse coat left him visibly shivering. But no matter – because this sweet dog greeted everyone with his calm demeanor and of course, his wagging tail.

the world has clearly not been kind to him recently, if ever, but this fella seems to have put his past behind him, accepting the love we've promised him in the future.

Upon examination at the shelter, Jolly's coat was dull and coated in urine. He also has pressure sores/dermal wounds on his ears and hip points, as well as multiple abrasions on his muzzle with mild muzzle swelling. He is also emaciated, with a body condition score of just a 1/9, so he is currently on a strict refeeding schedule in order to gain weight back safely and steadily.

Jolly deserves much better than what he has obviously been through, and it is surely a miracle Jolly has not let his past neglect and possible abuse define who he is. Everyone who has met Jolly is excited to see how with love and care, this dog, made of pure love and kindness, turns out to be.

Jolly needs immediate rescue because of his condition and is asking an approved rescue organization to step up and help.
